Jacqui, Keith and Dan
Now in our fifth generation of Thomas Jardine & Co our vision is for Young and Generational Businesses FLOURISHING in our wonderful region. We are on a mission to inspire confidence in business to grow and flourish through each growth stage. From Start Up to Large and EVERYWHERE in between, in person, in groups and online – space to think, plan and DO!
Our members are Jacqui, Keith and Dan Jackson and we fulfil various different roles:
My current role is Thomas Jardine & Co’s expert in Family Business and Leadership with a wealth of experience in Board Facilitation, Peer Group Facilitation, Family Business and SME Growth.
I am also a Non-Exec Director; Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR), Leader in Residence and Honorary Teaching Fellow at Lancaster University, EiR (with Family Business remit) at the University of Birmingham and member of the Be the Business SME Taskforce.
My previous experience includes: Vice Chairman, SPAR (UK) Ltd, a £3.2bn retail/wholesale group; Head of Family Business Engagement; Director of Programmes (SME), Lancaster University Management School and Chair FSA Industry Group.
I want entrepreneurs and generational family businesses to succeed in our place and for our region to be the best in class!
To us, it’s all about taste and place. As Thomas Jardine and Co, we are currently working with Cumbria Local Economic Partnership, The Family Business Network, Food Carlisle, DEFRA, Lancaster University and the Institute of Place Management to encourage everyone to enjoy the taste of their place.
Examples of our current projects to support the growth of food and drink in our place include:
- Commissioned research by Cumbria LEP to identify the support the Cumbrian Food & Drink Manufacturing sector requires.
- Developing the ‘This is Cumbria ‘ stand with the Family Business Network for next year’s Farmshop & Deli Show at the NEC.
I want to raise the profile of all the great food and drink businesses in our area and let the rest of the world enjoy what we produce.
My Current role is taking the lead on developing our coworking arm. We have started with The Guild, introducing the BRILLIANT coworking format to Carlisle. Coworking is not just about the sharing of infrastructure and cost, it is about belonging to a community, accessibility and sustainability. It is the new way of working and sharing. Coworking spaces are designed to provide a productive and collaborative environment for their dynamic inhabitants, and created without corporate constraints on what is perceived to be an “office” environment offering flexible memberships to suit most needs.
I want to bring this kind of vibrant work space to our wonderful region as it is now a global phenomenon, coworking spaces are popping up in most major cities with an annual growth rate of 24.2%. I truly believe more coworking spaces in our incredible region will help the phenomenal talent we have flourish and not feel like they have to move to the bigger cities to thrive!
"We created The Guild because we wanted a place where people can come and flourish in a supportive atmosphere"
